Cha Dao: the Way of Tea
“Tea is more than an idealization of the form of drinking;
it is a religion of the art of life.”
-Okakuro Kazuko
Cha Dao "The Way of Tea" is a Zen Buddhist practice that comes from ancient Chinese lineage. It is one of the integral components of my spiritual practice, as an instrument of self-cultivation.
Tea is a compassionate, humble teacher, known as the “Great Connector”. It is nature manifested, the universe in a cup. Used in ceremony, it invites us on a sensory exploration of the elements, where everything is connected by presence.
Tea meets us exactly where we are and gives exactly what is needed. Tea doesn’t force, rather creates opportunities for us to return Home - to the body, the present moment, the eternal now.
Every ceremony is a completely unique experience. What arises when we slow down, find stillness, and listen is truly profound. This practice has changed my life, and it’s both an honour and a blessing to witness others find in their bowls the same magic that ever-inspires me.
